Finally, women are calling out toxic online dates. Now to target the apps themselves

"It had to happen. And now it has. Women are finally rising up against the pitfalls of dating app culture, and fighting back. Since March 2022, Are We Dating the Same Guy? Facebook groups have sprung up in almost every major American city, from New York to Little Rock, as a way for women to call out bad digital dating experiences. What started as small-scale communities are now spreading internationally and have grown to include hundreds of thousands of members. 'Boys, frickin’ buckle up,' one TikTok user said in July. 'If you mistreat a girl, or are doing some sketchy stuff, the time is over, ‘cause you’re getting caught.'"

She warned other women on TikTok about her ex-boyfriend. Then she received a cease-and-desist.

"While women aren’t alone in using online forums to post about connections from dating apps, a Pew Research Center study found that young women are much more likely than their male counterparts to report having their safety threatened when online dating, whether that be receiving unwanted communications or unsolicited sexual images, or being berated."

"Paola Sanchez, the creator of Are We Dating The Same Guy, has described similar reasons for launching the private Facebook groups. "I first started these groups to help solve some of the problems and dangers that me and my friends were experiencing with dating," she wrote on a GoFundMe page created in March. (The page says Sanchez is raising funds to build an Are We Dating the Same Guy-style app. According to her GoFundMe, she has raised over $44,000.)"

A Facebook Group Is Helping DC Women Dig Up Dirt on Potential Dates

"The private group, called 'Are We Dating The Same Guy?,' was created in May by three users with info-free profiles... and has gained over 2,000 members. The same users created a group in San Diego in March, and have since launched others in the Baltimore area, New York City, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Dallas, and more. There’s even a version aimed at the London dating scene. Each group has the same title and purpose, written at the top of the page: 'a place for women to protect and empower other women while warning each other of men who might be liars, cheaters, abusers, or exhibit any type of toxic or dangerous behavior.'"
